Guest Essay: And the question is? Denton Record Chronicle, 7-17-20

The question of whether or not Texas schools will open in August is still up in the air. The authorities, and by those I mean the school district and the governor’s office are not sure what to do and while they’ve had all summer to think about it, the signals they are sending are far from reassuring and make me think they are as confused as the rest of us. So far, the reopening date has been pushed back two or three weeks plus I read where they are allowing for some time to be spent teaching and supposedly learning online after schools reopen. Personally, I’m glad I’m not a dad of school age children. Still, if I had kids, I’d probably keep them at home, for now. There’s just too many unknowns.

But then, why go back to school at all? Kids that want to learn will learn even if they have to study under a tree by candlelight, while those that don’t want to learn or are simply not interested will get nothing from going to school anyway – they haven’t in the past and they won’t in the future.

Thanks to technology, leaning is now more accessible than ever and anybody that wants to can learn. It’s the “want to” part that’s required.

Here is my two cents worth on the Denton Record Chronicle: And the question is?
