Rats, not published, again . . . “The Screamer”.

Some rats have a reason to scream

Here is a letter I sent the newspapers a few weeks ago and it didn’t get published. Maybe I was a little too hard on the guy, who knows. Still, I stand my ground and I’m not taking anything back. I think that when you write, especially if you profess to call yourself a columnist, you have to have something to say, else, shut the hell up. After all, cussing and screaming up a storm is not the point. There has to be a message, a point, a solution, something, or at least be funny. Anyway, maybe I’m wrong. If you want to read him, look him up and good luck. Then you can be the judge.

The screamer . . .

When I lived in Valdivia Chile, there was a lady that would occasionally go downtown and scream. She was small, middle aged, kind of lumpy and would stand in a random corner and scream to beat all. Not surprisingly, they called her the screamer. I asked about her once and was told that they had tried everything, including treatment at a mental hospital, seclusion, a strait jacket, welfare, housing, etc., and nothing worked. Then they would shrug their shoulders and explain that evidently she liked to scream and they let her. Reading Leonard Pitts’ article on climate change yesterday Sept 17 in this newspaper I was reminded of her. Here is a guy that just likes to scream. And I guess, we let him. Yes, I suppose there are some people that read his articles. I know of one: a friend that taught English at UNT for years can read him. Not fair I say, because if you taught freshman English you can read anything, same as a Billy goat can eat the food, the tin can it came in, and relish both. In the article, Mr. Pitts repeats the same story of always, blaming everyone under the sun and same as most articles I’ve ever read by him, offers one solution: fall in line with his way of thinking and the problem is solved.  Really Mr. Pitts? I guess every town needs to have a screamer, and if not, feels the need to import one.

And today, March 3, 2020, there is another letter to the newspaper titled “You cannot fix stupidity,” regarding the same contemptible person I mention above. I was only to happy to read it. The link: Letter to the editor, Denton Record Chronicle.

I was inspired to send my own letter of approval. If they by chance publish it, I will post it here.

    1. I don’t know why but your comment made me laugh. I guess it was the brevity of it . . .
      Well said,
