Life is stranger than fiction . . .

Posted on Posted in Blog

Life is truly stranger than fiction and the World Cup proves it. Who would have thought the defending champions were going home so early? That South Korea is out, even after beating Germany, and because of them, Mexico gets to move forward. That alone should have won the Koreans the “bless you my son,” trophy and the reason most real Mexicans have South Korean figures on their night tables now, right next to the Virgen of Guadalupe, where she belongs. And Wow, there are five Latino countries still in the game: Argentina, Colombia, Uruguay, Brazil, and Mexico. Seven if you think of Spain and Portugal as cousins. Not bad, out of 16. Plus, the hometown boys are in it, which is making Nancy Pelosi nervous. Could it be the bogeyman will become more famous than her? My mother likes Pelosi because she wears nice pearls, but I think Putin, manly as he is, can buy bigger ones, if he wants to—I’m with Putin on this. Where was I? Oh yes, in Russia. And the stadiums there are nothing to sneeze at. Take a peek at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow. Can’t spell it? below is the abbreviated link. Plus, no Italy? or any country from Africa. Is there a racist statement to be made here? I say not: if there was, I would have thought of it already. And what about Japan? Their sun is still rising plenty and play Belgium who beat England and is now playing Colombia. My money in on Japan and Colombia. The game to watch on Sunday, however, is Spain vs Russia and I have to root for Spain—it’s the blood, you see. Then Mexico and Brazil square off on Monday. I’m with Mexico, obviously, besides, Neymar is such a baby.
