OK, I admit it. Learning a language is not easy and the more so because of all the idioms that we take for granted, use every day, and pay no more attention to than the man in the moon: kick the bucket, blue in the face, out of the blue, hold your horses, put a sock in it dude, when pigs fly . . . and the list is long. No longer, however, than if you are learning Spanish where the list is probably just as long, if not longer, and changes to: Buena onda! pan comido, creerse la última Coca-Cola en el desierto, hablando del rey de roma, tomar el pelo, ¿quién te pasó la guitarra huevón? y “Fue un saludo a la bandera,” cuando algo es meramente simbólico y nunca se llevará a cabo.
