The school board here in Denton Texas where I live is a joke. Their only concern seems to be “more is better, always”. They never ask themselves how any of the stuff they sanction, their gimmicks, or their blind adoration of high-tech is going to help even one student get an education. I meet recent high school graduates that can’t write, can’t read well or multiply even single digits, but nevertheless, the unfortunate, ignorant, wide-eyed, unsuspecting lambs are ready to take on the world ‒ when they can’t even make their beds. It’s sad, but that’s what we have here in Denton. Yes, there are exceptions, but those students are what my dad called bubbles: you put them anywhere, hot water, icy milkshakes, thick molasses or gravy, it doesn’t matter: like a small bubble, sooner or later they rise to the top. The rest get cheated out of an education. It reminds me of years ago attending the inauguration of the Hayes County grade school in Wimberley Texas. A million dollar baseball diamond was the pièce de résistance. There was money for that, but not one book in the library.
