Two weeks ago I went to Francisco’s and installed a TV bracket on the wall, so he could watch from the kitchen. He tells me the TV is doing fine and now he can watch the Rangers lose in high def. while doing dishes.
A few days later, my sister told me that a neighbor/friend fixed up his 4 year-old house to be perfect. No detail was spared, including new sod with golf-course sprinklers for an acre of ground and everything was restored to better than new, before he listed it for sale. The same day a buyer came in looked at the view from the back patio and signed a contract. In all the excitement of selling the house, her friend didn’t realize the buyer never went upstairs, or looked at the pool, the tennis court, the 3 walk in fireplaces, the 5 car garage, the gardens or anything else. That was two months ago. Two weeks ago, they crunched the house into a ball of lumber, sheetrock, new carpet, lamps, doors, granite counters and Italian marble tubs, then hauled everything away. What they didn’t haul off, they used to fill in in the beautiful infinity style pool. Turns out the buyer was buying the lot for the view and could care less about the house or grounds. What’s more, for insurance reasons, nobody could go in the house and salvage anything. Dozens of 10’ hand-carved French doors, 30 – 40′ long Redwood ceiling beams, gold handle lavatory faucets, enormous crystal chandeliers, everything to the last scoop, went kicking and screaming to the land fill.
Then last Saturday Oscar asked Jim and I for our opinion on Photonics. At first, I thought he was kidding, but I guess he was kind enough not to assume we knew nothing on the subject—all in all, it would have been a safe bet and the way Jim was batting his eyes like an owl in a hailstorm, I think he knew as much as me. But we don’t have to stay ignorant on Photonics forever, so, I’ve been reading about it, and it does mirror some things in modern lives and times worth mentioning. Basically, it’s weird and there’s a lot that can’t be explained. Even some things that contradict the laws of physics and that scientist studying Photonics called them “spooky.” This basically referring to the effect that changing something in a particle at one place changes the same thing in a corresponding particle, or its mirror image one might say, but miles away, and instantly, too—no waiting around impatiently for the speed of light to catch up. Some say it opens the possibility of teleportation. Wow!
What else is there to say: modern life is weird, same as Photonics. The only advice I have for Francisco is to listen to the Rangers like I listen to Colo-Colo games: on a scratchy am radio. That way when they lose, it’s not only nostalgic, but not nearly as painful. I have no comment on buying a new house for a tear down and less on anything “spooky.”
But remember, anything is possible, including a Ranger’s win . . . occasionally.
