So, North Korea has a missile that can reach the US. That’s “us”, actually, and it seems a lot closer than before. So, why is not everybody unhappy about it? For one thing, there’s a lot of North Koreans in the world and they are proud to have the technology. And who can blame them. Few countries have it, and none that have suffered through a famine of late. That’s a record all on its own. But no famine for rocket scientists.
Still, fair is fair: we have it, they want it. Whether it’s jeans, cellphones or bombs doesn’t matter: that’s how the world works.
What is China doing about it? Not much. What are we doing about it? Same as China. We’re talking loud, of course, sabre rattling they call it, but I prefer to call it hot air, same as always. We did the same with Castro and Pancho Villa. Some things just don’t change. I suppose there’s no easy answers, but it seems to me we are equally as dogmatic as China, Russia and the North Koreans. “Dogmatic” as in narrow minded and rigid. The difference is, some people have less to lose than others.
We bombed North Vietnam once, with enough bombs to send them into the Stone Age, according to some, but we ended up scuttling the project in the long run. I suppose we lost heart and that’s the kindest way to phrase ‒ even though we weren’t the ones getting bombed. There’s a lesson here I think, although it’s fussy to me.
Maybe someone will have a good idea as to how to proceed and let me know. I’m waiting for a good solution, same as everyone else.
Viva! Pancho Villa, (and small problems), Viva!
