No news is boring . . .

I read the news again this week and I’ve got to admit, I was disappointed. Nothing much happened in a whole week, at least not worthy of being called news and with 7 plus billion people in the planet, you’d think something would happen. So stocks went up, then down, tons of rain and snow dropped on North Carolina and one our military planes flew over the Ukraine to give Russia the jitters. Really?? Meanwhile, the price of oil moved up or down, I forget, causing the price of gasoline to drop below $2 which is good for some, bad for others, and maybe the reason someone could afford to drive a dog to a state funeral. Not even one Congressional scandal in a week! and they are always so dependable. Who cares? you ask. I do. I love scandals and is asking for one asking too much? I think not.

So I went to the most reliable source of scandals there ever was and visited the folks on Mount Olympus. Talk about fun.

There’s Eris, for instance, a.k.a. Discordia, I like her. Not boring like her counterpart Harmonia. Then there’s Zeus, who goes and marries his sister. And believe me, he did. If that happens again, I want to be there. Then there’s Ares, always facing humiliation, but unbeknown to most, he’s running around with Aphrodite, the goddess of love—clearly worth every drachma. The stories read like the congressional record, meaning there is never any consent and weird things happen. Take Leda, for instance: she’s married to a King but protects Zeus when he turns himself into a swan and they mate. Of course she gets pregnant and lays two eggs, what else? See what I mean. Weird and fun. I love it. And I haven’t mentioned Centaurus, Ixiob or even Zera, Zeus’ wife, the jealous type.

Anyway, sorry, I got carried away. All I meant to do is remind everyone to be at el Chap this Saturday, a la hora de siempre.

¡Viva Olympus and Discordia, Viva!

  1. I’m not on board with this post. Your initial thoughts are sound enough, but nevertheless it’s dangerous to rely upon whatever other people might believe. Please expand this, because I believe you’re an insightful author and I would like to read more from you!|
