Many times we say things and think nothing of it. Which is good, and probably the only way to have a friendly conversation. If we had to review every word we were going to utter as if in front of a judge after hearing the infamous “. . .can and will be used against you,” we would probably follow the example of the modest clam and never say anything, no matter what. For the most part, our conversations are trivial, inconsequential, mainly friendly chit-chat and somewhat boring. Sometimes, however, we say something that has an impact on another person, or people in general. Yes, it would be good to know what effect one’s words are going to have beforehand, but, that is seldom the case and the reaction to what we say sometimes turns out to be as much a surprise to the person hearing it as it is to the one saying it. Alas, such is the way of the world. As far as this story goes, I didn’t mean to upset Lindon, that was the furthest thing in my mind, but I did. I’m not sorry for it, it just happened.
