In my appraisal, one of the reasons to write is to learn critical thinking. And it’s probably the best way. Nothing lets you see the many holes in your argument as your own words in front of you, plain as day in unadorned black and white. Plus, you have a chance to patch up those holes before anyone else learns about them. I do this all the time when I have a point to make and want my argument to be watertight. Not that there is such a thing, but one can at least try.
Then comes the art of explaining your line of reasoning and this is far from easy.
The best way is by having a civil conversation, which takes practice. And like playing the piano, a lifetime is better than a few minutes.
My personal bar is high: William F Buckley. Not that I agree with everything he says, I just admire the way he does it. Try one of his videos and be prepared by having a dictionary handy and don’t be afraid to use the pause button. Mr. Buckley’s vocabulary is legendary. I would say awesome, but I don’t like that word as it has been taken over by people that have a limited vocabulary and use ‘awesome’ to mean anything good or bad.
