So I sent this essay to the Denton Record Chronicle (link) all the time thinking they would never publish it, but they surprised me. It’s about kids rioting in one of our high schools, while the rest took pictures, made videos (Link to Video #!) and cheered them on. What kind of people are these? I asked myself. And why do we let these uncivilized future criminals attend a school that cost $113 million dollars to build? You would think we would only send deserving student there, the cream of the crop perhaps. But no. We send anybody that lives in the district, whether they want to study or not. Actually, if they live in the district, the law says they have to attend. As a result, the students that want to study have a hard time doing so, and how a few manage to study in spite of all the distractions is a mystery to me, one of many, and I congratulate them: it can’t be easy.
So far they have arrested 26 with more to come as they analyze the videos and come up with more names.
I remember the effort my parents went through financially to send me and my brothers to a good school and the effort they made to make sure we had clean uniforms, all our books, as few patches as possible on the elbows or knees etc. And here in Denton the kids go to school for free and many, I will say a majority, could care less.
It’s a real shame.
