It happened again, only this time it took a manager to figure it out. I went to Home Depot and bought a 6’ x 12’ pc. of indoor/outdoor carpet that sold for $3.25/yard. Not one of the three girls behind the counter could figure out how many yards that was and when I told them it was only 8, they asked me how I knew—obviously a big mystery to them. I didn’t know what to say and fought my instincts to be sarcastic. No point in aggravating them, I figured, I see them twice a day. So, they called the floor manager for assistance, who got out her calculator and figured it out.
I’m thinking there’s a lot we’re missing when we talk about what’s going on in today’s world. And this is only one example of many. There’s a whole foundation that has been eroding for years, and I don’t see how it can end up being good, only I can’t think of what the long term repercussions will be, other than having citizens divided into groups: the haves, the haves a little, and have nots, and I’m talking basic skills here. (2 x 2), (2+ 2), (6 x 12 ÷ 9) So sad.
