Some things are just unbelievable. This article, however, is a true story and it ranks up there with the Amazon Rainforest burning, building more coal-fired electric generating plants, and arresting illegal immigrants at a chicken factory without so much as a letter of reprimand to those that hired them. Not in scale, of course, but in principle. I could go on, but you get the drift: things that should not happen at all, happen all the time, daily, on a regular basis. I’m beginning to think that the world is ruled by Murphy’s laws. In other words, the universe is totally perverse and willfully acts against the interest and wellbeing of people. This includes the Department of Motor Vehicles in Texas. In my judgement, the fact is almost certainly as old as humankind.

Example: we have laws specifying that to drive, we must get a driver’s license. But it’s not enforced, so many people choose not to get one. Plus, we do nothing about it.

The only answer I’ve gotten as to why this is so, is from a very liberal friend of mine that says that if we enforced the driver’s license laws by towing the car driven by a person without a license, then it would be a hardship on illegal migrants/undocumented workers: those that can’t get one.

You, me and they, (if you have no-fault insurance) are paying for that.

Last year the Home Depot I visit almost daily lost about two million dollars due to theft. Who pays for that? I do, in part. The people that don’t steal do, and everything is more expensive to make up for those that would rather pilfer than pay.

 If I want a rare, vintage perfume made with cocoa butter from Zambia in the spring of 1922, I can get it by tomorrow morning from Amazon. But try to go online and get a replacement driver’s license and . . . just try. Tell them you lost yours and see if you can get one. I dare you. Anyway, I couldn’t and it drives me nuts.
