Every now and then something I send into the paper – The Denton Record Chronicle ‒ does not get published. Why? I don’t know and they don’t tell me. Still, here is the letter along with a link to the original article and you be the judge.

Everything has rules and writing is no exception. In Mr. Mann’s latest article regarding “Time to change the toxic atmosphere we have created” he breaks many of them.

#1. An article should say something. Not ramble incoherently about God, Creation, St. Paul, Satan, politicians, love, sex, sin, and castles in Ireland, then peter out like a repentant fuse.

#2. A thinly disguised version of “The sky is falling” cannot be guilty of originality and should give credit to Joseph Halliwell

#3. In America, it’s best to write in English, not in German that gets translated to English. This tends to be confusing and shows poor form. Clear, crisp, simple sentences are best.

#4. Inform. If not inform, entertain. If not that, persuade. One of the three is a must.

#5. Be clear in what you want to talk about. Don’t start with Genesis then fast forward to the present quoting and decoding the bible all along while getting a few jabs in about the “wall.”

#6. Ex nihilo? Mercy! But amusing. I would have preferred “out of thin air.”

#7. I’m not impressed by someone making an argument then cherry-picking the Bible to back them up. The Bible can support any argument.

#8. If you’re going to talk about “all kinds of wickedness,” mention a couple. I for one would like to know a few.

#9. If evidence and facts are important, please refer to them. Merely implying they exist is not enough.

Rule last. Don’t say “we” if I’m included. I object.

    1. I have some spam, but not a lot, and I figure that a little of it goes with the territory. I know there are some tools (plugins) in WordPress to avoid spam, but so far I haven’t felt it necessary to use them.
