I’m not going to say that all the talk of climate change is so much hot air and contributing to the overall effect, but I might . . . one of these days. Actually, it’s discouraging to read about all the conferences and protocols, letters of intent and student protest regarding climate change on the one hand, and all the news of oil production and record petroleum exports driven by the fracking revolution on the other. It reminds me of gun control: if there is one thing that could get us to change the laws on the ownership and sales of guns, especially automatic weapons, a school massacre ought to do it, but it doesn’t, and to my thinking never will.

Back to climate change: I’m not saying don’t talk about it, but I also think we need to be realistic and understand that as long as big oil makes money, we’re stuck with it. The minute green technology makes more money than oil, or saves money, we’re going green. Not before. You see, it’s all about money.
