Line in the sand . . .

Amigos. I’ve thought about this, and I think one of the recurring problems of human society has always been maintaining the fine balance of method vs. principle ‒ with some stressing the former over the latter while others, calling themselves more real-world and practical, prefer it the other way around. And there’s no easy answer. Everything depends on so many things: circumstances, conditions, timing, surroundings, etc. If you’re being attacked and have to defend yourself, methods count, principles be dammed. If you’re a movie mogul hiring a hop-along secretary, it’s different. It’s also different if one is at home or not, whether there’s enough time to make a decision, and so on: it’s not easy, ever.

Some so called philosophers have said that there’s a million methods and very few principles and those that grasp principles can select the method. I laugh at that: advice is no good if it’s impossible to achieve. Advice needs to be doable, not unfeasible. Also, I’ve noticed that the ones with the most advice are the very ones having the hardest time grasping their one and only principle. Does that sound right? Anyway, be that as it may, this Saturday at El Chap we draw the line in the sand and try to figure this out, as always,

A la hora de siempre,

¡Viva hunter gatherers: all method, one or two principles, Viva!

The best way to really need to look at this and understand why side with the story. I cant think youre less well-liked when you certainly hold the gift.
